This week (3rd to 8th November,2025) minimum trading activities continued to take place at the regional border trade hub of Busia. Maize grain was offered at Ugx.1100/kg w/s. Supply was delivered mainly from northern Uganda via Dokolo Lira trade route to the border town. Good maize grain supply was reported within Kenya but also cheaper maize grain was received from Tanzania before elections.
An estimated 700Mt of assorted bean varieties were delivered daily to Kenya via the Produce dealers market at Busia. The market received newly harvested beans from the Western region especially Mubende, Hoima, Kagadi and Kabaale.Yellow beans as usual were preferred at Ugx.3673/kg w/s while Rosecoco and Nambale Short beans cost Ugx.2919/kg. Large Nambale/K132 beans were offered cheaper than the Short variety at Ugx.2160/kg. Red “Wailimu” and Mixed beans sold at Ugx.1890/kg and Ugx.1850/kg respectively . The old stock beans were offered much cheaper because they were not demanded.The Kenyan market also registered plenty of Suger beans from the Republics of Tanzania & part from Rwanda. Supply was traced from Mbeya South of Tanzania.
Slow trading estimated at only 2Mts daily were reported for Millet grain. Newly harvested millet cost Ugx.2400/kg w/s much of it was delivered from Northern Uganda. Red Sorghum from Teso and Karamoja sub region cost Ugx.1100/kg
Other commodities offered for resale included Cassava chips at Ugx.1000/kg, Simsim at Ugx.3600/kg, Soya beans at Ugx.1700/kg and Irish potatoes at Ugx.1000/kg.
Some Maize grain was purchsed by transit traders from Rwanda via Katuna border post. Maize was offered at RWF.450-500/kg. Demand for grain across the border met higher grain price offer on the lee side.
Generally stable maize grain price was reported in Kampala between Ugx.1060-1080/kg off truck in Kisenyi Kafumbe-Mukasa Rd and Owino Markets. Millers purchased grain and offered good quality maize flour at Ugx.1800/kg, maize bran at Ugx.800/kg. Demand for animal feed has kept the millers in action. The trading community that bought maize at Ugx.1000/kg are experiencing losses and will continue to hold onto their stock for some profit.
